Nah I could see that as a legitimate criticism, there is so much unease and tension built throughout which is only really satisfyingly exorcised at the end of the final track. This makes it a brilliant, singular whole-album experience but I can see how some would not care for it - I'd say most albums are full of songs where each kinda contains its own peaks and troughs and mini-climax. For songs like Nosferatu and Don there is no real emotional rollercoaster or effective 'closure', they're pretty cold and inert so I could see how that would be an acquired taste. I personally don't know if I'd ever listen to them outside of the whole album. I'm also not sure how much this would grip me if it were any longer (even though I am partial to the Utica Quarry field recordings bonus track on the iTunes version)

So we’ve established it does actually go ‘somewhere’ then, you just need to jam the whole thing... which shouldn’t be too difficult for anyone with an attention span.

Of course it does, but if you don't find the ending of GM captain a satisfying payoff (I struggle to see how one could not but it is possible) then the overall experience could seem pretty emotionally neutral and meandering

Maybe it does require the listener to succumb to it’s otherworldly, captivating, gravitational pull. I understand that mere mortals are perhaps not on the same frequency.

Yeah I get both of your points. That ending is totally undeniable though, one of the biggest payoffs I can think of and all the more powerful because the whole album leads up to it. But if these brooding things aren't your thing than I guess this doesn't work four you.

I totally get the meandering nothingness thing, honestly I was just messing around. Personally I do find the journey riveting in it’s alien like wonder though.

Yes, totally on the same page, both opinion wise and Sputnik wise.

That riff in Washer brings a tear to my eye.

If an album's dynamics are as ludicrously on point as this one's are, it can 'meander' til the end of time and I wouldn't complain. Hell, I could listen to For Dinner... (2nd best track here!) on repeat til the end of time and not complain

Finally watched Breadcrumb Trail. Drummer seems like a weird dude, but I love how the whole band come across as really enthusiastic young musicians instead of the tortured artist types you might expect from an album like this.
