No offense intended whatsoever but i've always found it kind of cheap how fallen musicians/actors/anybody of fame etc become almost over acclaimed and appreciated after their death. Chi had some great basslines for sure but I rarely ever heard them mentioned prior to his death. I suppose thats just human nature to immortalize the dead.

Agreed about Chi's bass on Cherry Waves. He adds so much to that track.

Whoa calm yourself lol
He's nowhere near immortalized, he's a solid talented bassist, and it really shows on this album.

Sergio is pretty bland conpared to Chi tbh, although the bass is pretty much inaudible on all the post Chi albums (with some exceptions of course).

He does some fantastic work in Swerve City and Gauze.

Seriously fuck off. Chi's backing vox and basslines have always been appreciated, and plenty of people loved them before he was even gone.
I mean shit you can make the same argument about Frank and Abe not really being mentioned that often and they are still alive. When it comes to Deftones Steph and especially Chino get the majority of the spotlight and that's how it's always been.

I mention Abe a lot. Chino and Abe have always been my favorite parts of the band.

Man, ever since I started listening to Deftones (about a year ago) everything else just seems so boring now. Lately I've been trying to get into some other bands but fuck me I only have a craving for the tones, nothing interests me at this point other than 24/7 listening to them.
Anyone else had the same phase ?

"The ideal single to appeal to all audiences on this is Kimdracula."
Definitely would've made a better single than Mein.
|
| |
mein is drug down mostly by serj's part but the main chord progression saves everything else that's wrong with it. people complain that the verses are lazy but they're fine to me
it's still one of the worst songs here but it's not that bad

Sergio is a good bassist but with Deftones minimalistic approach on the past couple of records it's pretty hard for him to shine.

Woah woah i never said chi was a shitty bassist, or even an average bassist he's definitely one of the better one's i can think of.
Better clear the air, I had just read the Facebook page of a recently deceased guy from my high school and was infuriated by the half-assed comments about how he was 'such an inspirational person' and 'a genuinely good guy' and whatnot by the very same people who treated him like shit in school or wouldn't even acknowledge his existence. In hindsight that not at all the case with fallen musicians etc but sometimes the flattery still strikes me as being a bit cheap.
Probably a comment should have been kept to myself or atleast worded it better
