They released a full ass essay on why they won't pull out of festivals this summer that have backing from KKR, they make a very convincing argument for why it's better to take the platform and hijack it to make a lot of noise than to boycott and give that platform to someone who'll use it for all the wrong reasons - much like in politics.

I’ll go a year or so without jamming this record and then listen to nothing but it for a fucking week straight.
Idk how hot of a take this is but I really can’t think of an album this influential that’s also this timeless. 25+ years on, it’s still better than damn near every record that it inspired imo

relationship of command
for your own special sweetheart
(almost) every fugazi, unwound, drive like jehu and number girl album
have all aged much better than this and it's been handily outgunned by worship and tribute and the always open mouth on the pretentious opus of jank front to name just two obvious examples
outside the genre (of ratty guitar music) I'm not even going to humour the idea that this is unparalleled for influence x timelesssness yeesh

The only album in that list that is even in the same conversation as this album is Worship & Tribute. Even then the drums are blown out of the water by Sandstrom on this. But you might say that Daryl is a much better vocalist than Dennis. It's a toss-up but everything else you listed is not nearly ambitious enough to actually contend with an album that succeeded upon its own insane level of ambition.

Relationship of Command is better but this is more influential - and probably just as good in a way.

I disagree with yall. This isn't so amazing the whole way through, sure, but the standouts are complete bangers. That said, I think this album's influence has been a net negative overall. I think post-hardcore actively got worse because of this.
Also, RoC is definitely worse than this. It's got some bangers too, but like Invalid Letter Department is one of the worst songs ever lmao.

I just got tired of listening to this in my friend’s car all the time

Relationship of Command is a great album, but it has obvious flaws such as irritatingly flat clean vocals. To me Lyxzen's vocals, while somewhat monotonous, work much better. In terms of song structure, RoC can be considered progressive for the genre. Not trying to say it's bad at all it's like a 4-4.5 for me. But in terms of dynamics and musicality it does nothing remotely close to what this album does.
I don't feel this album's influence has really been properly explored yet. Most bands took the guitar tone and style of screams, but would love to hear recommendations of bands who took the dynamics and genre-mixing of the rhythm section and fused those with hardcore. FACT is actually one of the bands that I would view as having done that to an extent (electronics, tendency to not use standard drum beats, etc.), and they are one of my favorite bands ever. But even then they don't go quite as far as something like The Deadly Rhythm, which is just an absolute genius track.

THAN REMEMBERED

ATDI is way better than this band but this album is more consistent than RoC

Yeah I caught them a few years back in 2019 when they toured with Thrice - fantastic show from both bands, one of the best gigs I can recall.

Nice! I remember this tour. Thrice and Refused on the same night is an incredibly strong line up.
It's a shame that It's really hard for us here in Brazil to receive tours like these outside festival appearances, although sometimes we're graced with some fun line-ups.
It just got announced that next year there will be a joint Pennywise and Millencolin tour here. Definitely not at the same level as a Thrice/Refused bill, but fun nonetheless.
