"That show you linked would be a good candidate for greatest live show of all time so I don't know what ur talking about"
Kirk finishing the solo only half a second late is really as good as it gets. Other than that, there's a moment in every song where either he fucks up or Lars does. Always. Every. Fucking. Show. Or Hetfield's voice gets weak. Sloppy live band.

They’re good live but only when you see them live. Listening to a live performance by them is really bland and underwhelming.

Seen them 3 times. They have their moments, but they're unbalanced at best.

Apologies, I thought you'd linked to the Seattle 89 show. But if you shit on that show you can do one, one of the greatest gigs of all time easily. A live show isn't about just recreating the music, if you just want the music played perfectly listen to the album. I could go to a Dream Theater or Joe Satriani performance and watch a tight display of incredible musicianship and be bored out of my fucking mind.

Agreed, they did some kickass shows in the years following AJFA, I remember watching a gig at the Hammersmith Odeon on TV and getting totally pumped. And yeah, it's not all about perfection live. But Kirk for one has a habit of ruining it for me most of the time, the man just can't play his own solos for shit.
So when I watched Dream Theater at one time playing Master Of Puppets live, it was annoyingly perfect, but at least Petrucci got the solo right ;)

The gig in Moscow in 91 with Pantera, AC/DC and the Black Crowes was also absolutely unbelievable, mainly due to the sheer size of the crowd (some predictions say 1.6 million which would make it by far the largest concert ever) as they played a pretty short set.
I appreciate what you're saying as nowadays they can be so sloppy to the point where it can kill it but in the past whatever sloppiness they had they more than made up for in performance. And haha I didn't know they'd played that but I guess it perfectly illustrates my point; never in a million years would I choose to see Dream Theater perform MoP over 80s Metallica!

Saw them on the madly in anger with the world tour in like 2004 it was cool but they played too much load and reload also kirk did a 15 min wah solo that made me so mac i threw away my wah pedal, same thing when I saw black label society, zakk wyldr is an even bigger wanker live if you can believe it

Big fan of Jason here, the only thing I hate about him is that he plays the bass with a pick. I can't stand bassists who play with picks.

Jason is a magnificent power bassist who got snubbed by Metallica. Same thing with Rob, another talented bassist who is hardly ever used. It’s pretty clear the members still consider Cliff to be in the band in spirit; if Metallica could get away with not having a bassist at all and instead still credited Cliff as an active member, I’m sure they’d do it.
