also to be fair they sound nothing like EITS imo and the Mogwai comparison might work but mogwai blow or at least what I heard wasn't very interesting
I get a feeling people compare them to these bands because nobody knows much good obscure post-rock that might be more akin to GYBE

Sounds like they threw some random chords together in minor keys, added a voice-over to give it some meaning and spiced it up with some strings as an alternative to the guitars.
Bland and completely forgettable. Anyone could do this.

Makes for a good copypasta to go with almost all post-rock tho.

The "random chords" 1/3 into Dead Flag Blues that have all that reverb, combined with the strings, makes this really desolate, hopeless atmosphere that's just ufff. And then they somehow keep that atmosphere for the rest of the album.
does bridge like ambient at all? because I think it's been mentioned if you don't like ambient there's little reason for you to dig.

I like some ambient, yes. I'm not having a dig - it's just an opinion.

I don't think this has anything to do with ambient tbh, it's just post rock

there are loads of droney part with no rock instrumentation. Would you classify that as drone or noise or? I guess 'ambient' is a bad word for it but I don't listen to noise or drone so idk if those'd fit.

album is real good when you're driving through small towns in the country on cracked roads on a a dark-cloudy day... shit rips and gets you in the mood to be like the apocalypse man.

a lot of metal bands use ambient intros/interludes and the likes but they're never the focus of the music (as they're not the focus on here) and therefore you don't go around calling it ambient
what I'm saying in short is I don't think this would appeal to ambient fans more than it would to non-ambient fans

I think people used to listening to music with often sparse, atmospheric instrumentation would take to this pretty well. It's pretty different than, say, Hammock, but there are similar ideas in presentation and this is totally focused on atmosphere like most ambient is.
