I’m with deathschool, love Atheist but struggling a bit with this so far.

I enjoy this ever so slightly more than Atheist. I think it comes down to the atmosphere, and how otherworldly the jazz parts sound. It sounds downright alien, but also so dreamlike. I feel like I'm going through the Stargate in 2001 when I hear some of the more mystical and "celestial" moments on this thing

Atheist (UP, mostly) sounds messy at times, while this feels tight and crisp in comparison. I enjoy both but this gets the edge in execution.

yeah, like the instruments have moments of lag before they line up during changeovers, drum fills, guitar harmonies etc but it's all so chaotic that eventually you stop noticing the minor discrepancies. it's not a big deal but there's just a hint of "fuck it, that's close enough."

@Seven: suppose that’s fair enough then. It’s an acceptable compromise when the songs are so exciting & honestly it’s hardly noticeable (probably because I’m no expert, idk). This just doesn’t get me going in the same way, it lacks groove & the vox are below par, especially the cleans.
