communion is an improvement even from the leak tho, i love the classic sound he was going for on this but i think it was mastered a bit too flat

I agree PC's production is a bit better than this. Still not sure which is better, though.

PC is greater in every way possible, not that it was hard to begin with IMO

First of all "Opeth" continue to the same direction like the previous album..For me i'm not satisfy for that direction..This sound is not for me..But i understand "Michael"...He grow up...How long time play like that? With brutal vocals and extreme riffs?..The time goes by and he need to play like that..And all we must respect this. This album, for me is better than previous...For sure..But still worst from the old times..And for the music part,i don't hear something i never heard from "Opeth"..Some same melodies and same synthetics abilities..And this over the time really tired me...That album have high level technique and alternations on songs but i don't think is one of the best on this year..For the sound(because is not my type 70s progressive rock) and i heard again on some point the same melodies and the same synthetics formulas on songs...But is better than "Heritage"..That is the good thing....The songs " Eternal rains will come" "Cusp of eternity" and perhaps the best on this record "Voice of treason" is really great stuff...

So I don't know enough piloting rodents to give a flying rat's arse about if its metal or prog or whatever, but think about this - most Opeth "fans" enjoyed Damnation and that had fuck all death metal on it. Why is this SO different? Just think about the music. If you don't like 70s prog DON'T listen to this album. If you didn't like Steven Wilson's Grace For Drowning album also don't listen to this album. If you want Death metal, listen to old Opeth or some other death metal band like Cannibal Corpse or whatever to satisfy your neanderthal-like deathy vocality urges and stop bitching about the band's choice to go a little more proggy.rRant aside, though I'm still not keen on Mikael's clean vocals compared to say Steven Wilson's if he'd made this album (it does sound like Mike has taken a few lessons from SW imho), the music itself is godly. Well done to the Opeth squadron with their well executed prog-hemoth of an album.
