Juggernaut Omega literally has the exact same av as this at 3.7, the argument that this is "easily their best and not even close" is undermined by this factual evidence. I'm curious if you where to see a live show and they didn't play any P4 songs would you actually leave due to this.

album still rules, i was actually concerned that when they went independent they'd strip away all the elements that i loved because i had heard somewhere that Sumerian had a role in telling them to write the likes of "Lune" which is a top 5 best song from them. but no they still wrote that stuff.

which is why it was pointless for them to leave Sumerian, why leave if they're just going to retread everything about the last album again, makes no sense

i was actually worried about them deviating, and im happy they didnt because the Sumerian-influenced stuff actually hit for me on a different level. i love love LOVE the melodic cuts here more than anything else.

Which is why it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard that someone could like this album and not P3, they are identical, they are the same album, only theres one song that's 16 mins on this album

Identical, when one is their best and the other one their worst, lmao. They might be a little similar in terms of style, but melodies and riffs are much better here

say it with me, "I love whiny emo boy screaming over djonty djont riffs", you have to since you love P4 so much

Because the band likely only had a distribution deal with Sumerian and figured that they were big enough to handle their own distribution instead of giving Sumerian a cut. LOL at the notion that Sumerian had a role in Periphery's songwriting.

people kept suggesting they were meddling in the writing so i assumed they influenced the parts that i liked the most (namely, the softer, more emotive cuts)

Seems like a pretty baseless rumor. Ash has talked about how he thought Periphery would be the biggest band on the planet if they just wrote more mainstream sounding metalcore, but he had no leverage over the band to make them do anything and Lune isn't the type of tune he was talking about anyway.

The band themselves have talked about how Lune came about. Apparently it's the first song they wrote in an old fashioned full band jam session rather than the guitarists bringing riffs to writing sessions that the other guys built upon.

have not jammed this since release because (lemme think) i had a dry patch and was insecure about whether virginity could grow back, but i remember it being miles better than that shithouse p3 album i'm currently tryna erase from my memory and also the universe
