Not all the time. If you wanna be cute, then yeah, rhyme away, but lyrics should tell a story first and foremost. If its easier to tell that story without rhymes, then don’t rhyme.

weird how every music and especially poetry course i've ever been in taught me that rhyme is an important pillar of the process if that's not how it should be, and that not rhyming is a sign of better lyrics than rhyming. guess all my teachers screwed up my thought process with how to judge music lol

Yeah I mean using rhyming as a metric for any sort of lyrical…um…adeptness? …sort of keeps you at a relatively shallow end of the pool of like, well, all art.

anyways underøath’s never been a band i’ve looked to for lyrical depth; they just get the dynamics right so it was good and fun to sing to. Now that their dynamics have on all fronts shifted to 14 year old atheistcore it’s just inescapable, blah

Lyrics having to rhyme is one of those basic things that every good songwriter needs to know how to do, but after that it becomes more optional. It's like the three act structure, if you're a beginner you should follow it but a lot of the best films and novels of all time don't

again, i guess my teachers must have misled me. lol

"anyways underøath’s never been a band i’ve looked to for lyrical depth; they just get the dynamics right so it was good and fun to sing to. Now that their dynamics have on all fronts shifted to 14 year old atheistcore it’s just inescapable, blah" i look to their lyrical content due to the personal flair that i'm able to relate with. i could give a fuck less how "deep" it actually is if it's able to latch on to me on an emotional level. which they still do here.

don't you think that's what i do all the time? what i meant is that the lessons have shaped my judgment subconsciously because of what i have learned about music over the years.

“i look to their lyrical content due…”.

I mean sure, that’s art. If it hits, it hits. I think i’m more of a A Crow Looked At Me guy, butcha know

i listened to the first 45 seconds, then skipped about 2/3 way through to confirm nothing interesting happened. and even that much time spent was awful. WOOF that hook is cheesy

@onion don't lol.

its cool for artists to do other stuff but when its bad.. compared to legit good stuff theyve made.. idk it almost feels dishonest like the artist isn't addressing the quality drop at all and says its a 'genre' thing

I got to about a minute and a half or so. but yes, its an atrocity. it belongs on You're Welcome by ADTR

Yeah Spencer's poor songwriting skills and Aaron doing pop and praise worship for so long killed this band imo.

I want an album completely written by Tim and Chris
