The Hunter is full of boring filler and lazy jam sessions passed off as songs. The title track, The Sparrow (dedication notwithstanding), Thickening, Stargasm, Bedazzled Fingernails (did I mention the idiotic song titles?)...it's just not exciting or fun to listen to. There isn't even a story element or concept to tie any of it together and maybe lift the floor like with Quintessence or Hunters of the Sky.

All those songs you listed are great, you didn't even mention Dry Bone Valley lol.

The whole idea of the album was to strip away most of the flashier elements and make songwriting the star, to which I think they did a great job. It's not their best -and I think Curl of the Burl sucks and cheapens the whole album- but it is a fun album that I think hold up pretty damn well.

Also, this one of my favorite Brann albums.

this took several months to grow on me. The Hunter never did. it's just been slowly sinking like a dead whale. the whale on the cover of Leviathan. it is dead Moby-Dick. The Hunter killed Mastodon. long live Mastodon.
