I don't know if this is a hot take or not, but I don't like the addition of the keyboardist on this album all that much. I feel he brings the influences I'm less in tune with.

I disagree. It's true they show new influences, but they were welcome for my taste. They brought a new sound to the band, a true breath of fresh air to their sound.

He brings some good stuff to their sound don't get me wrong, but I feel I am very sensitive to that cheesy, fairground organ noise that crops up now and again here.

I only ever had this album and Blackwater Park from Opeth on CD back in the day - this one just didn't quite hit home as hard as BP.

When i saw them last night someone shouted "Baying of the Hounds" and they teased the crowd by playing the first 10 seconds and abruptly stopping

Always found this just slightly overrated. It's par for the course for this era of Opeth, and besides Ghost of Perdition and Isolation Years, which are perfect masterpieces, the songwriting is pretty inconsistent

Watershed is the better album and I'm probably the only person who thinks that

Watershed is amazing, but yeah, this reigns supreme easily for me.

@Ocean of Noise, nope, you're not, you just summed up my feelings about this and Watershed perfectly.

Hounds is great, Mire is meh. Harlequin Forest is actually amazing but feels kind misplaced, like it should have been the closing track (or right before Isolation Years) and suffers from the softer parts being way better than than the heavier sections.

Grand Conjuration is cool for like 3 minutes.

Overall I almost never listen to this all the way through but I enjoy Watershed start to finish.
