I'm actually listening to Obscura right now and to this day I still think its way too haphazard and bizarre for its own good. Cool record don't get me wrong, but I don't see it as a classic like everyone else does. YET

I also struggle with it a little bit, although it has been probably two years since I last listened so I’m due for a re-spin. I’ve gotten into some weird shit since then so maybe I’ll enjoy it more lol

I'd say Here In After would be in the pioneering trilogy, esp since it came in 96, between Nespithe and Obscura. But this was the pinnacle shortly thereafter, ya.

Nah if anything this is all aesthetic for me whereas Obscura does consistently interesting things, whilst also having almost peerless atmosphere. This sounds massive and is entirely appropriate for the themes, but the ‘wow this sounds like hell’ novelty kind of wore off after a year or two. What’s left is great in its own right, just not an all-time classic.
Can’t believe I finally said it.

"Peerless atmosphere" is the best description for Obscura. Nothing comes close to it in terms of originality and plain mindfuckery.
From Wisdom to Hate is basically an easily digestible version of Obscura which is why its my fav. m/
