Apparently they're not for everyone. Love them to death though, they incorporate so many styles into a nice sound which is all their own.

it just didn't click to me tbh

Fair enough. Happens sometimes. I love many of the trip-hop greats like Portishead and Massive, but Tricky didn't ever click for me yet.

Maxinequaye is essential.
People say the same about this fucking cacophony.

Yeah, I've heard that about Maxinquaye so many times but it never seemed that special to me (and I've tried). The sole fact that something's a classic doesn't necessarily make it enjoyable to everyone.
I'd like to 'get it', since when a classic clicks you're in for a treat, but it just doesn't.

The fact that it sucks probably doesn't help very much

I mean, it's better than a good amount of other music I guess, but holding it up to the level of Mezzanine & the first 2 Portishead records is baffling to me

Good to know that I'm not alone here, Log. First three Massive and all Portishead is miles ahead of it. I just don't like it at all.

Yeah I don't know it's practically all style & little to no substance to me
People could argue that for all of trip hop but they'd be wrong, and stupid

Hell is Around the Corner is the greatest ‘trip-hop’ song out there.
