The first time someone writes a song for his mother and it's not accused of suffering oedipus complex.

"Wings for Marie" was a great song. I love the guitar work. "Jambi" still goes hard.

Wings for Marie is quite possibly the best Tool song ever.

I'm guessing you are talking about the salival version right?

The Salival version is amazing, yeah, but even the original version is a top Tool song for me.

My top Tool songs, not in order:
Vicarious
Jambi
H.
The Pot
10,000 Days (including both parts)
Track #1 (to all those Tool fans who get the reference)
Lateralus
Forty Six & Two

Vicarious, Jambi and The Pot are all great but they're bottom-tier Tool songs tbh. Virtually everything on Lateralus, Ænima, and even Undertow is better than those songs

I like rosetta stoned musically, not lyrically or vocally though.

Eh, I agree with you Ocean, with the exception of Vicarious -- killer track, and the best of the record

Rosetta Stoned is amazing other than the spoken word vocals at the beginning. The Pot is classic, even if it's among their most simplistic and straightforward songs. The drumming is as intricate and complex as ever though. I love Vicarious and Jambi too.
I think the strongest quality this has over the previous albums, even if Lateralus is their best, is how much more technical the instrumental performances got on here, especially bass and guitar. The songwriting isn't any less impressive either, other than the album not flowing as well as the others, and some pointless interludes. Aenima is just barely better.

the technicality doesn't impress me usually, it's gotta be put to good use

"the technicality doesn't impress me usually, it's gotta be put to good use"
yep, I think this is exactly why I don't dig Tool as much as the rest here.

It's put to fantastic use here, their songwriting doesn't change that much or get compromised in favor of guitar wankery or anything. Only flaw this has besides the filler and flow is some moments of self-plagiarizing, pretty much from Aenima.
