The thing that makes the S/T even heavier for me is that Minerva gives you that hope of a happy ending and then the album closes with Moana which is like a gloomy version of Minerva the way it starts off and then it just stays dark throughout

If you haven't heard much Deftones yet then do start with White Pony. It's a classic.

Yeah I've heard WP and SNW both are hard 4.5's for me, I'm just kinda taken aback by how consistent these guys are so, so I'm not sure what to jam next.

Nice man, well if you 4.5 both of them then I'd say start with Around The Fur then work chronologically and check Adrenaline if you want to go back and see where they started.

Diamond Eyes is probably the darkest, with White Pony as a close second.

Listening to the S/T as we speak and so far it's the heaviest I've heard by these guys, although heaviness and darkness are two different things.

Around the Fur is the most uncompromisingly bitter and best composed album in their discog. to me, nothing they've done captures a mood so completely as that album.

Around The Fur is probably their angriest.

WP is perfect. S/t is definitely their darkest but most of it could have been executed better.
