I never had an ipod but I still have some of my old mp3 players kicking around. Even though the battery doesn't charge I can still hook it up to the computer for the files. Such a throwback.

Its so much better to have music, not paying a dumb subscription where sometimes albums or artists are not even represented. Also, separate device from my phone, separate battery as well. The rating system is nice too.
