The album is pretty good.. feels like a throwback album for sure. But the new drummer just doesn't do that signature double bass like Chris Adler. New guy's style is more straightforward and it honestly makes the music lose a bit of what LoG is/was. I can still appreciate the music. It's not their best album but it's solid

Album absolutely crushes, only bad song on here is Parasocial Christ.

Blunt Force through to Devise is a crazy strong way to end an album

It's interesting where people's preferences are falling regarding the tracks. I don't think it closes as well as past albums and most of the meat is in the middle of the album, surprisingly.

Cruz just ain't it. I keep bouncing back and forth between the two and it's just so apparent that Cruz is playing to the instruments. Adler's double-bass is wild; on some tracks he's complementing the rhythm and, other times, he's commanding the pace and tempo. Listen to "What I've Become" and you'll get a sense of that. He plays to the rhythm but then lays out a very staccato bass kick akin to a march. Cruz would just roll endless double-bass through some of these sections.

Then listen to The Faded Line. Adler fucking loved gallops. Those alternating hits on the ride and china is just so good, man. And those little high bell hits too.

Definitely the first LOG album I’ve been interested in since Sacrament. Upon first listen, “Parasocial Christ” and “Sepsis” were totally skippable but was positively surprised by “El Vacio”. But I’d have to agree about Cruz. Serviceable but bland compared to Chris Adler.

Adler was demonic. Cruz is nowhere near as creative.
