now imagine if this actually did come out last year like was planned… and imagine if it dropped the same week as private music

150 ratings in two days is fucking nuts by 2026 standards. we've already cleared Near-Death Travel Services' total, to put it in mathcore OG terms.

Don't remember Converge sounding more metallic and straightforward.

I dig it nevertheless.

This album is already in my top 5 Converge records. Future classic? Who knows...

Funny that the two best rock albums of the year so far both have ten songs but more than a 2:1 ratio in actual playtime

Most of us were not expecting reinvention of anything, just perhaps more dynamics, more intricacies, more emotion, more connection, and even more “oh shit” moments. This is mostly just angry bangers, and for some that’s not enough to slap a 4.5 on it even if they’re great [2]

Album is not bad in the slightest but the band name wouldn't make a difference, i wouldn't be impressed either way, riffs and song structures are just not that engaging overall

It literally is, yesterday wasn't loading properly and had to reload multiple times to get it going

>The funniest part of this whole ordeal was that if this was some no name band dropping something this good in the big 2026 I think a lot of these 3’s and “not original enough” comments wouldn’t fly

versions of this comment have been posted ad nauseam here and it's been shown time and again to be a heavily flawed near fallacy by users far more articulate than i am. though to put my own spin on it i think there are two ways to look at this. one, duh. if an unknown band came out with an album that is as technically proficient as this is people would rightly feel different. two, i'm not sure how other "3 people" judge music but i certainly don't hold bands to some lofty standard constantly expecting them reinvent the wheel and match their opus. it kind of comes down to the same basic standard of: does this sound pleasing to my ears? how many skips/standouts are there? will i return to this again in a day, week, month, year, ever?? i think i fall between one and two and would give this a 3.5 if it were an unknown band and a 3 because it's converge and like asap rocky made me wait a long time to drop something that doesn't really feel special and certainly doesn't standout in their discog to me...yet.

I honestly think the fact that its converge is the thing thats making it stand out. If this was a "No name band" i think it would be panned as just another core band, if anything the mantle of Converge is this things saving grace and probably one of the things keeping critics from wobbling

Its a great record but i cant feel it having much staying power

I have already said my piece. Concur with the takes by unclereich and DType regarding this album. Ripper, certainly above-average relative to most music I've listened to in this genre context especially, not much more than that: certainly no masterwork even within the context of Converge's broader discography. Nothing particularly ground-breaking or impressive, but a still smattering of good riffs, extremely very tight playing, excellent production, et cetera.
