Pale Folklore is their most melodic, and most resembles black metal. There's still a shit ton of folk but less post-rock tendencies.

The Mantle is their folkiest album. There's much less distorted guitar in it than the other two. It's easily my least favorite but a lot of people consider their best also. "In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion" is probably the definitive Agalloch song.

Its really a matter of personal preference.

For me its The Mantle > Pale Folklore > Ashes against the grain. But you can't go wrong with any of them.

I definitely think Ashes slays anything else they've done although I really like everything they've put out.

This album is SOOOO good. My favorite tracks are limbs, falling snow, not unlike the waves, and bloodbirds. The only reason it isnt a 5 is that the last track i just find to be annoying... all atmosphere, no instruments whatsoever really.

Well the last track is only there for the atmosphere.

The last track is fine. I don't know why people bitch about it so much. Doesn't hold this back from being a 5 at all.

I used to hate the last song too but in the context of the album it works. Need to give this another listen. Agalloch are so fucking good.
