>I like that you like this too Eggy 💚

It took a lot of listens, but now I'm addicted and it's probably my favourite newpeth.

Same boat. I listened to this once through and was like, huh, I should probably give that another spin. The type of record that gives you an idea of something very interesting going on, but a lot to digest. Every repeated listen enhanced my appreciation, and currently it's sitting as my favorite since Ghost Reveries.

Watershed is pretty good, it definitely has its moments and I've grown to like it more over the years. My favorite Opeth records are Morningrise (nostalgia), MAYH, and Blackwater Park. Deliverance is a bit weak, Ghost Reveries is pretty good I guess, not as impactful as their previous records. This is a more interesting album than Watershed for me.

Revisiting Watershed made me realise how much I dislike this incarnation of their sound tbh. It delivers all the lighter quirky prog moments in a much more appealing package. The growls hit harder too

Best one since ghost reveries agreed. Weirdly watershed sound more like old musicians imitating their past sound than this one. Its worse than anything before it, at least if deliverance/damnation is counted as combined version. 8th/9th best Opeth, still solid thou.

as far as I remember watershed was met with not-so-great reception when it was released. some folks seem to have turned on that because it's the last DM Opeth's done until this thing

Watershed was always good. Heritage too. They fell off after that

I relistened to it recently, the death metals more organic tbh and the mix of proggy wank with DM is again cleaner and less cluttered than it ie here. This is great and i like it but they are still aways away from their peak death metal quality.

Im also still quite perplexed by this and where to put and my rating for it

Edit: Old mikaels song writing chops where a bit more coheisve and structured, modern Mikael is a bit more theow everything i love at a wall and eee what sticks and layer it so theres a lot of depth
