tear in the fabric of life is a better written record about grief/loss, and if all CP wanted to do is be heavy it just sounds generic

I prefer that EP too but it is still a lazy comparison. KL leans more 90s metalcore while Counterparts are more 2000s mixed w melodic hc. Heaviness/mosh parts shouldn't be the only point of comparison

I don't think you read what I wrote. The writing is my biggest issue with the EP. They also forego the melodic sound that makes counterparts counterparts. All I'm left with is how heavy the album is and it just doesn't do it for me. The 1 minute and 13 seconds of return to passion blows this EP out of the water.

Yea I can agree there, much like most of Counterparts music I've heard, this is really boring to my ears. It just seems too easy to compare them to KL because they are the biggest hc bands not named Hatebreed or Terror. I do want to complete the bands discog before I write em off

Never thought I'd see a complaint about a metalcore EP being "too heavy" but here we are.

Some people don’t vibe with just super heavy “basic” writing which is fine

But fuck em 😂

No doubt. It def takes aim at a completely different sound. Gonna draw some and alienate others. I love it though for what it is

Hell yeah. Its just pummeling from start to finish. Perfect length too. I know people don't like the abrupt cutoff to the title track but it is what it is lol.

I think if I had to try to pinpoint it, heavy for the sake of heavy that has like an air of lazy, that shit sucks. This is what I get when I listen to like…. Emmure.

This sounds purposeful, intentional and straight pissed. It also flexes just innate difficulty, especially with drums. So it hits for me

Like Hawks, this is probably my favourite release from the band thus far.

they nailed the heavy aspect of this, but they should have at least kept some of the melody

Yeah lotta people getting fussy over a one-off heavy EP. Relax guys, they're not abandoning the melodies
