Oh yeah, Stargate remains my fave (I think). The Message enriches this so much though.
You guys should leave the idea of death metal band behind with these guys. Its way too hard to keep comparing them with Tomb Mold or Horrendous fe (all amazing bands, mind). This is "pure" heavy af progressive metal. Some riffs go straight post sludge too. There's also tons of bm drumming and blackgaze sections. Sure you get really nice thrashy and dm sections too. Did someone mentioned they still manage to go ambient and 70s prog rock...oh yeah right. Listens into this and it gets richer and richer.

Born and raised in Denver, it’s been absolutely amazing watching the metal scene evolve. Primitive Man, Khemmis, BI, Allegaeon, Black Curse, Glacial Tomb, Stormkeep, Vale of Pnath, Spectral Voice… so much sick music coming out of the scene. This record feels like the culmination of a decade of growth from a particular space and it feels way more special to me than just a sick cosmic prog death record (which it absolutely is). Biased, for sure, but damn this is glorious.

I like where underground metal is atm. It's very revivalist but in a great way and with its own modern spin. Lots of groups rejecting that squeaky clean, punched in aesthetic that was such a huge part of music in the 2000's and early 2010s and seeing what they can do to pull influences from the old guard and mix them in interesting ways.

"I listen to this album and I get the sense that these guys were dying to make something beyond spacey death metal"
whoa, where did you get that impression from? Was it the Tangerine Dream worship culminating in an ambient release totally devoid of metal. Perhaps the consistent nods to this approach in their marketing? Or was it when you heard the blatant Pink Floyd 'homage' in here?
seems like a real bold claim there fella

The more I jam this the more I dig it, but some of those transitions between the juxtaposing styles are still not great.

I don't think this tops their debut but it's still a superb offering for sure. One of the best current dm acts around.
