Yeah, it comes across pretty clear, I think.

It was recommended to me as a shoegaze album so that's why I was judging it as such.

I never really thought of this as shoegaze, but I suppose there are elements of it here and there. Not entirely important though, it's just a really great rock record. Really glad I was able to see these guys live with Cage the Elephant and Foals last year.

Idk, maybe it's just the bias with which I've been listening to the album but to me most of the tracks are as shoegaze as they are alt rock. RYM has shoegaze as the top voted primary genre on this.

The first half is just decent (one of the more emo sounding parts here) but the latter part is great.

The more I listen to this, the more I'm turned off by the vocals... May have to drop my rating.

Mellon Collie, yeah, as well as their popular singles. Siamese Dream (which I've been meaning to get to forever) is also on the gaze list actually. I'm not totally enamored of Billy Corgan's vocal style either tbh, if that's what you're intending to ask.

I've always seen Silversun as a more lacey and sparkly Smashing Pumpkins is all I was getting at

I can definitely see why people make the comparison, though it does seem based on this album that people exaggerate the resemblance a bit.

I will say that for the most part this is pretty excellent instrumentally and the guy's singing is pretty much the only thing holding it back for me.

I mean the comparison is pretty obvious, straight alt rock dressed with shoegaze and a guy who sings like a whiney trailer park girl. The latter I totally get being off putting. Corgans even more so.

I definitely like Corgan more than this guy but I've also been listening to Corgan for several years so maybe I've just gotten used to it.

As I'm listening to this again now I am vibing with the last 3 tracks a lot.

So yeah, it's definitely a very good album and hopefully/maybe the vocals will grow on me. Can't say I'm too intrigued in checking out their other material though.
