I love Dusk but yes it feels a little underwhelming after Place in the Sun

And rating Tunnel Lights that low is crazy to me, it’s probably my favorite track here aside from Place in the Sun

Place In The Sun and Unseen World are fs the top 2 for me but every song slaps and TL and Salt are no exception. Only track I'm still not totally in love with is ETB

Unseen World back to back with Place in the Sun is absolutely my favorite part of the record

This took a couple listens to click with me but now I'm loving it. Not sure what I'd rate it yet though.

Quite restrained, though.
Trent Reznor as sadgirl… wait, isn’t it Marilyn Manson?

I'm completely fine with NIN in general, I just don't hear it here.

I loved Whispers in the Echo Chamber last year when it came out as a single but I cannot get over how awesome that riff at the end of the song is. It hits me so hard every time I listen through this!

you are deaf if you don't hear the reznor on here

I’m gonna be honest I hear more later nin too, so not even his “good” records. A lot of this, aside from the vocals obv, sounds like it could’ve been on Hesitation Marks or the little trilogy Trent and Atticus most recently put out.
I think this is better than all of those records for sure, but the influence is there…

@Scoot, indeed, I may be deaf, what can I say?
But now I get it, I hated Hesitation Marks, haven't listened to it since it came out, so I don't even remember how it sounds, just that it is too generic. But this one is quite different obviously, nowhere near the same category to me.

@gabba
I wouldn’t call you deaf, he’s put out some really quality music in the last 15 years or so that alot of people ignored, so I can forgive people for giving up on him. The Slip is mediocre as hell, and With Teeth feels like Trent on autopilot. I want to make it abundantly clear that I don’t hear a lot of 90’s NIN influence here. There’s very little Downward Spiral or Fragile worship here.
Even tho I’m a huge Hesitation Marks apologist (hey, it’s at least better than the Slip, right??), I think most of the influence comes from the trilogy I mentioned, more specifically Add Violence and Bad Witch. House of Self Undoing is straight out of that playbook and Chelsea fucking nails it. I would say Place in the Sun, Unseen World, Dusk, and Liminal all sound like they’re directly influenced by Trent’s later work. And most of the other tracks too tbh, just to a lesser extent.

I'm still digesting this album, for the next time I'll keep NIN's trilogy in mind, which I actually dig quite a lot, especially violence and witch.
