Okay maybe 17th / 18th (did a quick estimate) 🤔

rant is justified. not putting the entire album on the physical media you paid out the nose for is fucked.
jeez, 18th. I'd put Phan 1 in my top-5 probably, behind Oceanic, Elil, and Lapsus. also The Mantle, if you consider that post-metal.

did not really feel this on first listen but will keep trying!

Godfuckingdammit I wonder if it's not too late to cancel my vinyl order.
I was so fucking annoyed when Kardashev did this w/ the last one.
Guess you really actually need to start looking closely at tracklists on vinyl to make sure every song on the album is actually on the album.

That's so scummy they cut a song wtf. I'd never buy any bands stuff again if that happened on something I purchased.

I'm all for musicians getting what they can since it's a cutthroat industry, but yeah that seems really deceptive and scummy. Disappointing that they'd do that, especially to a song so central to the album...

I know this is nitpicky but some (most) of the lyrics on this are really uninspired and delivered with a strange lack of conviction that I can't help but think they are just being read off some notes in the booth and emoted

tbf a lot of them a pretty heavily ESL so this isn't the strongest language for them.
Wouldn't say they lack conviction though, Loic kills it.

Damn, that sucks that Kardeshev did the same thing. I wanted to grab that vinyl too but never pulled the trigger; knowing this makes me feel a little better.
@Peeps thanks for the info. At least I don't have to rage about not having a digital copy now lol

I assumed digital copies was the standard with vinyl releases honestly, every one I've gotten from a bandcamp release in the past has had one packaged in the sleeve.

I mean, it only makes sense to have a digital copy with the vinyl. I'm always baffled when there isn't one included--like, you couldn't throw a a slip of paper with a code in there real quick?

‘also The Mantle, if you consider that post-metal.’
Oh, yeah knock ‘em down one more as I forgot to include Ashes Against The Grain (not sure I’d actually count The Mantle btw 🤔)

I can't imagine it's scummery/treachery on the bands part in the case of either The Ocean or Kardashev, but I would imagine some level of confusion/stupidity/someone convincing them (possibly a label decision?) it's a good idea to cut costs by pushing out a single disc edition of the vinyl for less $??
Both records were relatively cheap for new vinyl in 2023 so they seemed priced accordingly for a single disc basic vinyl w/out a fancy gatefold, but bands like this produce such album oriented material I can't imagine a single person paying money for a physical copy of their albums that wouldn't be upset by not having the entire album top to bottom and wouldn't have shelled out a few more bucks for a double.
Too late to fucking cancel too so it looks like I'll be trying to sell that shit before I even take it out of the shrinkwrap.
Hopefully people will be vocal enough about how stupid and fucking terrible doing this shit is that it doesn't keep being a trend.

It's OK when concerning bonus tracks or tracks that are kind of bonus-like ("Holocene" isn't ESSENTIAL I suppose) but to exclude a song so crucial to the record's development and climax is pretty crazy.

"I can't imagine it's scummery/treachery on the bands part in the case of either The Ocean"
the ocean are on their own label soooooo

Yeah it's pretty infuriating and also confusing, in the case of both this and Vagabond's Lament, they're huge tracks that land in the middle of the album, I just can't imagine what they gain from not spending a bit more/charging a bit more for a gatefold double.
It's a little shittier with this record vs the Kardashev because they did release editions with the full album but they're all massive packages priced accordingly, so either pay normal and get dicked or pay far out the ass, no in between.

Even the massive packages are weird. I think Unconformities is on a 10", so it won't even flow properly with the rest of the album.

" the ocean are on their own label soooooo"
Robin Staps in a meeting with Robin Staps like "Okay, we've created something special here, how can we release it in the most obnoxious and bullshit way possible"
Lmao why would the one song be on a 10"? I wonder if it's some issue with Karin Park's label and their borrowing her?
Idk I just can't fathom how any of this seemed like a good idea to anybody.

I have other LPs that have 2 vinyl discs but only 3 playable sides. The fourth side is some sort of pattern or art and not actual music. It would be so easy to just do it that way...

I think Karin Park is also on Pelagic, so it's a baffling decision any way you look at it.
