Yeah new album is pretty good. Especially the 2nd half. Some cool ideas. Glad they branched out a little more on this one. Favorites so far are between directions and what we become

With January typically being a slow month for new releases I know already it will probably top my Spotify wrapped for 2025 with the amount of spins it's going to get! Really enjoying it, and can't wait to see them live later this month

New album is good and slightly better than this one. Still lacks a certain bite but there is some solid melodies here.

A few songs aren't destroyers but the highs are pretty high and this one's a good bit more interesting I think

Better than both new in flames and new DT though

Solid follow up. Not a revolution but exactly what you would expect from these guys

Growing up, Insomnium, DT, In Flames and Amon Amarth were my favourite bands, so this could not be more up my street. And alongside Insomnium, these guys are putting out way better music than any of those other bands atm

I have realised this style of melo death is doing nothing for me these days. Like its good and decent but overall meh for me

New one scratches the itch of the 90's melodeath that raised me.

new album would go so hard with some 90s era Anders on vox

For sure Carl, I love Stanne, and it's cool to hear him screaming over classic In Flames riffage, but 90's Ander's vox were too good. I also wish there weren't any cleans on the new Halo Effect album. I don't mind the style itself, but the songs that utilize them on the new one kinda suffer in my opinion.

yea, someone I was talking to about this said it just sounds like modern DT without synths. I think the novelty of Stanne screaming over old In Flames has run its course and thus now I must yearn for the Ders

There's barely any cleans, though, on the new album? Two songs, I think? And one of them - "Between directions" - is actually one of my favourites

Having had the new album on constant rotation for the past week, I think it's really good but doesn't quite hit the heights of the debut (Shadowminds, title track, Gateways, last of our kind). Still will probably be among my faves this year as I'm a sucker for this style of music!

March of the Unheard retroactively shows how fragmented and indecisive this album was. When they commit to the promise of the line-up as an old school melodic death metal revival, it's exciting and compelling (title track, Feel What i Believe). But it's like they were afraid of being labelled as too cliched, so they threw in a lot of pseudo-progressive or 'atmospheric' chuggy songs that sound like undercooked DT (Shadowminds, In Broken Trust, Gateways, Last of Our Kind). The result is an incoherent album that rarely hits any specific goal and lacks identity.

March of the Unheard seems to be them saying 'screw it' and going all in on the Colony/Clayman IF style, with loads of harmonised riffing, solos, and acoustic segments, and less of the timid experimentation.

need a melodeath band that can give me straight death metal with melodic riffs instead of super heavy melodic metal that barely scratches death metal and comes across like frosty power metal

I’d just prefer if we as a society could get back to Heartwork style melodeath yeah
