No Missouri or Kansas date makes me wanna punch myself in the dick!

Got to see them the week that Atonement dropped and man it was an amazing show! Vigna makes it all look so damn easy and I'm overdue to see it again

It's crazy this already has 18 pages of comments, but KoC which has one review and has been out for 9 years just barely has 16.

this attracted more discourse than the new cult of luna album, even though that one has been out for a week longer.

I'm not hellbent on anything. I'm just not impressed and never been a hype train passenger. I like that there is some discourse, even if I'm not at the "popular" end of it. There are some peeps that are extremely impressed and some that are clearly dissatisfied.

In a few years (probably months) this will be as disregarded as everything in their disco made after 2002. Probably more than the M&D and Atonement. We've gotta wait and see about that.

And I stand by my opinion, that sound is at most secondary compared to other aspects of any musical output.

When you say "sound", are you talking about the engineering, mixing and mastering?

id say production is more important in death metal than almost any other metal genre.

You got albums come out all the time of this quality by new bands and of other bands from the 90s in dm. Solid-good album mid tier catalog range. 99 percent of the time itll end up with a 3.5-3.7 score. But since its immolation it gets brought up a few points just because.

@YellowVoid

Since English is my third language I might sometimes have some problems stating the obvious. But yes, that would be mostly it. I guess that in the aforementioned context that would end up meaning that for me sound ~= production.

But as it is with words I might end up using the word "sound" including some more creative aspects like how distorted the guitars are or how the snare is tuned.

"id say production is more important in death metal than almost any other metal genre."

I've always valued production, regardless of genre, but yes, it takes on special importance in death metal. Paul Orofino and Zack Ohren did a great job here.

Every semi to big label band nowadays "sounds" good. Mostly small label and indie bands suffer from poor production. Most modern big label bands sound sameish.

Production can turn gold into shit, but it never works the other way round.
