It's taken a few listens, but I'm confident in feeling this is his best release since Yeezus. I'm deeply troubled by the man himself, his behavior these past few years and in the weeks leading up to Donda's release . . . I can't help but wonder whether poor mental health coupled with his very public un-coupling, all filtered through the lens of an inherently *white* evangelical faith/political system, hasn't totally blinded him to how irresponsibly he continues to act as an American icon. He's on a dangerous path there. In the past half-decade, he's curated as many uncomfortable images (and afterimages) as he has decent songs. And indeed, the Kanye we find in 2021 seems more preoccupied with tapping into the mob mentality, intoxicated by some pathological and history-haunted strain of meta-modern performance art, than he is with his actual music career. Somehow, though, Donda works (for me, at least) as more than cultural object. It's nicely textured throughout, adequately structured, and I find it refreshing/stimulating rather than dull. This is far from perfect, and yet I think the music media fucked up in their assessment of it, by and large

Made my own version with 9 songs cut (including all pt 2’s) and very slight rearrangement (Donda as opener and album ending as Jesus Lord, No Child Left Behind, and Donda Chant). And added artwork obvs

Punch from TDE called this a play or a musical, not an album. A performance piece. Still needs more drums.

Do you think everyone will put together their version of this and then when you talk to someone about it, the first thing you'll say is "show me your donda"?

That'd be awesome.
Honestly the album as a whole is growing on me. Listening to my playlist sort of immersed me in the Donda vibe, now the rest are starting to sound better. I dunno.

because no one answered the question, yes the Pt 2s are just bonus tracks with random unused verses that didn't make the proper album over the exact same beats
incredibly sloppy and annoying way of dropping shit but tbf Jesus Lord Pt 2 is incredible and pretty much renders the original obsolete

I dont know why he wouldn't just keep Ty $ on Junya and have that be the ONLY Junya. So fucking dumb. NOBODY IS EVER OPPOSED TO HAVING A TY $ FEATURE WE LOVE HIM SO JUST PUT HIM ON THE SONG INSTEAD OF HAVING ONE WITHOUT HIM ON THE ALBUM

I am loving Hurricane. Strangely familiar, some of the vocal parts remind me of Burial's Archangel

Fantano gave it a 7, how is that contrarian?

As someone who has watched him to keep a finger on the pulse of popular music since the beginning, I'm happy for the guy.
Also he introduced me to Ulcerate.

Thank God my expectations for this was hella low, but still for all of the waiting and 3 album-party listening worth of blue balls it was still disappointing. It's like TLOP in terms of being all over the place, but the production, features and lengths of some of these songs don't even come close. Sky City from Yandhi alone washes every single track on this album. That being said, I'm happy for everybody else who thinks this is great.
