Just realized that Foreigner from Pitfalls is just a shittier version of The Silent Revelation, so at least they did one thing right.

This is still holding up, but it's very much Pitfalls II

So it's definitely a lesser album, but I can't deny most of the songs here

I've learnt to really enjoy this band from a different perspective while i have to admit there are moments where their music can cross a certain line of cheesiness for me.

I can definitely see that. As a listener you have to embrace that cheese or abandon their more recent material, I guess. I someone who can do the former

think the hit density on here is better than pitfalls but pitfalls has higher highs so its pretty much a tossup for me

This album was obv written while having a more general appeal in mind and whether you like it or not, these dudes are pulling it off quite well. I could give zero fucks about Castaway Angels, but i also cannot deny that it's a really well written song.

Oh damn, that one of my favorites tbh.

It also stands out quite a bit in theor discog imo and 8 think that's great, because they have to watch out if they don't want to become samey

That's what prog and good music in general should be about imo. I experience Aphelion and Pitfalls in two very opposite ways depending on my daily mood or need. Life is ambivalent, it's fucking great. Their stuff prior to Pitfalls is on my list of albums i need to check.

@Flug The acoustic guitar tone, the simplicity that drags on for far too long and the fact I have been exposed to far too much shitty german pop music, so my ears can only handle so much of that overly sophisticated, deeply meaningful bs.

try to go backwards from pitfalls to have a smooth transition to more metal and traditional prog stuff.

malina is like the perfect blend of prog metal and the vocal style from their last two records.

damn that sounds pathologic, might wanna get that checked out, german pop is not to be trifled with.

I will backtrack just like that, even though i already know some of Bilateral and thought it ruled.

Btw. All the Moments is so good and needs some love.

The Shadow Side grew on me. Still, On Hold could be so much better imo.
