Yeah, this album isn't offensive... it's just boring. I didn't realize it was over until five minutes after the last song.

Dominoes and Big Star are such lulls and not in a good way, idk what she was thinking

It plays a like a break up album where the artist thought that sounding like a hippie/free spirit =getting their ex to realize how much happier they are without them when in fact they're still miserable.

I'm from New Zealand and never listening to this cos she fucking took our language to promote her shitty album because our language sounds nice. Love when money and recognition buys a rich white woman access to our world when many of us can't afford to even learn our own language.

If you're talking about the EP, all proceeds are going to two New Zealand charities

Yeah, that was a weak take tres

"She was literally born and grew up in New Zealand bro"
That doesn't make her Maori.

I would say that as long as proceeds to her albums are going to supporting those communities it doesn't feel like appropriation but if she's pocketing that shit...

All she did was sing in another language lmao

Yikes.

Lol well then in that case she's a goober. It seems like the classic case of white person wanting to seem more connected and worldly by attaching a part of themselves to the indigenous language without actually being invited into the culture by actual members. Big yikes indeed.

They want to be mad so bad

Thanks for keeping me in check newg. I thought I'd read what you sent somewhere but people were speaking with such authority that, you're right, I didn't do my own research. Thanks bud.

"They want to be mad so bad"
Yeah, why would indigenous people be mad about a white girl singing in an indigenous language she doesn't speak when white colonizers have done their best to eradicate said language and its associated culture and it only survived through the dogged resistance of those indigenous people to assimilation and eradication? So mysterious!
Props to Lorde for at least acknowledging how bad the optics on this are even if she went ahead and did it anyway.

Because you're acting like she's fucking making fun of it ffs. She literally worked with indigenous people to make sure she was pronouncing everything correctly because she cares and is giving proceeds to charity. Yes she is white and she doesn't speak it, but a wider audience will hear it due to her fame and maybe study it and carry it onto more generations. You sound like the people upset that a white woman released a cookbook of dumplings even though she literally studied cooking in China for years.
