"lots going on here"

The exact thing missing from the new album. At least Wildhund was a bombardment of sounds and ideas where, even if not every element worked, it at least was a fervent attempt at something. The new one is soulless in comparison. I also agree with you that this one suffers from being 2 or 3 tracks too long. Momentum starts to wane around Amber or Cloud Inhaler...for me at least.

yeah i totally get why some, like yourself, really love this album. there's something in it that makes me want to revisit, despite it not being uniform or smooth. absolutely an attempt at blending progressive/post-metal with a more alternative hum like sound, and it mostly does work for me. totally respect at as an artistic vision, pretty unique sound.

definitely felt my interest dropping off at the end, and it doesn't help that the one true stinker is the closer. really bad song lol. i kind of get a feeling that is what the new one is like haha

There are some legitimately good tracks on the new one which I think you'll dig. The good stuff is basically Wildhund 2.0 whereas the bad ones are essentially this album's closer repeated or made slightly worse.
