I made a condensed version of this album for those either short on time or who were turned off by the daunting length. I still highly suggest listening to the entire thing in order -- the meandering creepy sections really accent the highlight reel material -- but nevertheless, here you go (it's still over an hour lmao):

I got through this finally lol. Not that none of this was bad, it was actually fantastic. But it's also not in my typical wheelhouse and I don't see myself ever listening to it again.

"love your work"
ty! glad you enjoyed the record too!
"That's a great idea sowing"
thanks, I hope people only listen to it as a means of discovery, then work their way up to the full experience
"Should I add it to the database"
hmm what database
"Ok mfs this is pretty good"
Hell yeah Dewi. Hopefully that pesky migraine is gone too!

If it was fantastic, make it your wheelhouse! ;-) Jk though, awesome to see that you gave this a go and got lots of enjoyment out of it.

Yeah, just finished it and this is definitely within my wheelhouse. Been a big drone and ambient guy for quite some time, so this works just fine for me :]

Nice, Divergent. Any favorite tracks/moments? I laid out my track ranking earlier itt, but for me it doesn't get better than the following moments (in no particular order!):
(1) the creepy fish verses in Ashes and then when the clattering percussion starts with those distorted spoken words
(2) the entire end of prison when those eerie, discordant buzzing sounds start all the way through the heavy, plane crash reminiscent wreckage and manic shouting
(3) the gorgeous guitars that shimmer out of nowhere on the back end of ojos
(4) the transitional period in piel where it sounds like your sinking into a beautiful and mysterious digital sea
(5) the middle-eastern influenced guitars on priere

(1) the creepy jazz piano parts of "Nuit" and how the symphonic elements swallow that sound up eventually
(2) The way the minimalist synths of "Horizon" are complimented by the appealing vocal harmonies
(3) The way the poppy drum machine rhythm of "Piel" clashes with its dark, oppressive atmosphere
(4) The strange juxtaposition between hope and fear represented in "Soldiers"... the piano in particular is a beautiful divider between both emotions
(5) The acoustic guitar in "Sangre" and the way it creates contributes to both a folky and deeply disturbing atmosphere. Lots of dissonance and I fucking love it
Those are my favorites so far. Definitely a ton of atmosphere for sure, and I love how the album walks that tenuous tightrope between beauty and disturbing darkness... a lovely and potent combo

Ugh now I feel bad for not including Nuit, Horizon, Soldiers, and Sangre on my condensed spotify version. This is why folks need to just suck up the length and listen to this the way it was meant to be heard.

lol, it's all good. I don't blame people for not attempting an album that's almost 2 hours long... definitely a commitment for sure

we all better stop listening to The Seer and Skinny Fists then
I'm being facetious obviously, but IRA is slightly longer than Skinny Fists and slightly shorter than The Seer, both of which are revered here, so length shouldn't detract from the critical reception of this

For sure. Not to mention, Mellon Collie is even longer than this and still remains one of my favorite albums of all time. I'm not usually a big fan of overly long records, but I guess it just depends on the content itself. Though granted, I still much prefer F#A# to Skinny Fists as far as Godspeed goes

Oh me too; I'll never understand why Skinny Fists is even placed on the same plane of existence as F#A#
Another one I do not understand is To Be Kind, which falls super flat on the heels of The Seer but everyone here worships them as equals and some even prefer TBK

Completely agree with everything you just said.
F#A# is still one of the best albums I've ever heard. I remember the first time I heard Dead Flag Blues back in high school, and it never left me since then. Some of the best use of atmosphere I'd ever heard in a song, and that was what got me into post-rock/metal in the first place. A lot of what I'd heard in senior year of high school shaped my current tastes, but that was one of the biggest examples of such. I hate to diminish the impact of the band's later albums, but I don't think they ever reached the quality of that first record

Agreed -- they peaked immediately, and that's okay can't really fault them for that.
