Solo on Dear Diary blatantly rips off The Haunted's "One Kill Wonder" era ones that's for sure
|
| |
Yes we're ignoring it
|

Turns out Babymetal had originally recorded English verses for their feature but the band wanted it to be more authentic to their style so asked them to rerecord in Japanese.

Idk it’s pretty much the climax of the song and it’s another band’s riff lol.
|
| |
They only sound similar for about 3-4 seconds
|
| |
Yeah it's just half of the riff and that's 3 held open notes, which a lot of bands have done. It's gonna be a tough one to call in court. The only thing you can really argue is that the guitar tone is similar too.

I’m not arguing lawsuits. That shit would be dumb, I’m just talking about it being obviously derivative. And also their additions made the riff worse lol

metal bands rip each other off far more than we probably realize. what makes the dear diary instance seem so much more brazen is that it's one very popular metal band ripping off a popular song from another very popular metal band, whereas it's typically a popular band lifting from a more underground band or vice-versa.
