rowan made some point in the review (i think?) about the album being an emotional journey in different phases and each ep presenting different parts of that experience to the listener in the appropriate space and order
this doesn't make it good, but i think it's a strong take. calling this a comp is kinda facile and pedantic

I wouldn't think anyone is seriously arguing that this is a compilation. The better debate to be found is whether or not it's a consistent album, which could go either way. Personally I love the first EP and Dead Horse, but then I can feel it drop off a ledge. Very little else across the rest of the album grabs me. I think Flowers for Vases pulls off introspective/serious/artistically awakened better than a lot of songs on the latter 2/3 of this do. It's a lot tighter and more focused. Perhaps it sacrifices variety/intrigue for it, but I can't even remember enough from those latter 2 EPs to confirm.
