I mean it's a song that yokes together fifteen different ideas of what people on this site would consider vestiges of Bad Taste but it just works somehow. reminds me in a very general sense of something like billie eilish's "bad guy" in that way. shouldn't work but does. I love counterposing the sort of pseudoharshness of the verses with the pretty guitars in the chorus (and I really like that downward progression in the chorus forreal forreal) and it's just a funny great song
"XS" is amazing too. but then the rest of this is eh

nice. I seriously can't get over the cheese. Also i can't get over the idea that there's not a real appretiation of the sound or the aesthetics of (ugh) nu-metal, but rather a shallow interest in le epic meme song haha remember the early 2000's and that shitty fucking music? lol epic fail, dude.

I understand that feeling but i feel like the RINA album proved that RS had a certain faith in the fundamental Goodness of derided teen-/electro-pop aesthetics (albeit ratcheted up a level of complexity/eccentricity in the production, but still: "take me as I am" is basically a britney spears song) that she's earned my trust in turning to other equally derided genres lol. but yeah nu-metal can be hard to take as a retro-reclamation project

except timbaland-style production was actually good and the appretiation is getting, even if it's originaly born from milenial melancholia, is sustained by actually good, interesting production that lends itself well to a revisitation. Nu-metal was never good. That's just me, tho.

I just read a positive review of the poppy album (which doubled as a negative review for miss anthropocene) that intrigued me, I'll listen to it soon. don't think I liked "we appreciate power" very much but I'll have to listen again. (although I like miss anthropocene)

| |
oops nvm
|
| |
"(although I like miss anthropocene)"
miss anthropocene is admittedly goood for her but it has almost no 'nu-pop' as i will be calling it from now on
|
| |
i think we appreciate power is only a part of the deluxe edition
|

yeah it's not on the album per se, which as I recall is a good thing but I have to get through this pretty boring ulcerate album before I can listen to we appreciate power again lol

I would say babymetal was a big progenitor, not sure if potsy agrees

actually "we appreciate power" isn't as bad as I remember but it's nowhere near "STFU!"'s humor and dynamism
