I find fascinating how jazz found its way in Ward's drumming.

There's a number of common points between these guys and KC, among them the jazz influence.

Also, both bands were among the loudest in the 69-74 period.

Ward had a jazz background, so i would say it was rather the opposite, that it Ward himself who found a way to incorporate jazzy influences into the music.

I know this has its fans, but I find it loses steam after NIB on my more recent listens. I prob prefer the next 6 to this.

For the record I own the US version.

i own both versions, and i think the original track-list is more preferable

Sabbath reinvented their sound on their next album and started moving away from the heavy blues-rock covers, so it's reasonable to assume their next albums are better musically

I just love the spooky atmosphere of this one, their original intention was to write music to scare people, and that incentive really shows on this album

t/t is their best song by a very large margin (which is wild in a discog as great as theirs) but yeah side B is mostly just pedestrian blues

I know people tend to bring up the whole tritone (aka diabolus in musica) thing when describing how the t/t helped form metal as a genre... but honestly, the part that always astounds me more is just how fucking heavy that riff is for 1970. Especially the power chord on the downbeat, which was way more menacing and brutal than anything else around that time

The t/t simultaneously invented, perfected and rendered obsolete an entire genre of music (rock)

First track is so cool but I find the rest a bit boring or grating even. I can obviously see how influential it is and I like the creativity, but I am just not that big of a fan of most of the songs I guess

Maybe later but I doubt it will be in the near future. I like the next album and Heaven and Hell a lot more it seems.

Wonderful album, as long as you don’t go into it expecting it to sound like Paranoid or Master of Reality.

Who's already bought a ticket? Metallica, Pantera, Slayer…

It would be the best gig ever if it featured Maiden
