Well, the number you've listened to is finite (or so I'd like to believe ;]) - sure that number can change at any moment, but once you set a ranking down on paper you're still dealing with a finite amount

ah well maybe it isn't that scientific and I'm usually just looking at subsets of ratings at a time
I only rate my top 100 of each year on AOTY (and 20 'significant' albums I rated below 50% for each year) - I don't rate any albums in the middle range there - so no 50-65% scores

I have no clue what Johnny means by finite number of albums. I can not comprehend 100 point rating systems outside of a % system.

"Music is about sonics for me, not personality or poetry."
I get this, and I've even warned a couple friends when I recommended this album that they may think it's just an old man talking over boring piano, but to me, it does sound sonically good. Like most of the tracks are legit beautiful. I love the soundscape and vocal delivery. The lyrics are awesome but they definitely aren't the sole reason I love the album.

Someone mentioned earlier that it sounds like someone who just got their first keyboard and I think that's pretty apt. A lot of the compositions sound really amateurish compared to what they've made in the past. The backing vocals can be extremely grating, especially on Ghosteen Speaks and other tracks (we hear the same repeated croons over and over). Likewise, Cave's voice can be very irritating ("waiting for you" comes to mind). It's a very hokey album front-to-back, and I'm actually surprised it's so beloved. And while we're on the subject of its lyrics, I don't think they're especially top tier, although I will concede there's some great writing here, but stuff like this:
I lay in the forest amongst the butterflies and the fireflies
And the burning horses and the flaming trees
As a spiral of children climb up to the sun
Is pretty cringe

woke: "oh, i see, he's using religious imagery and themes to talk about belief, death, how we deal with the unkown aspects of our lives and how we give meaning to existence."
broke: "hurr durr, don't bring religion into my music"

I like religious themes in music (I love mwY after all), I just find this shit hokey as hell.

He references really obscure concepts from christian and judaic mysticism. Definitely not one-dimmensional lyrics.

I already said there are some great lyrics on this thing I just don't think they're enough to carry it, and some of them are glaringly bad/cringey. I love Bright Horses and Galleon Ship, but the rest just comes off as overly corny to me. Fireflies and Hollywood are both pretty good too but Ghosteen Speaks, Leviathan, and Ghosteen are all straight up dogshit. The "woooooooooooooooAHHHHHHHHHHHohhhhhh" vocals get really grating after a while.

Ghandhi - just face it you are a hater; not just Nick Cave, you’re miserable. You just like to stir shit up with people.

Nah, I don't hate Cave. That comment before was sarcasm. I'm just shocked that people think The Bad Seeds had no sonic value.
