This would be a super hard 4.5 for me...if it had proper mixing and balanced production. Such a shame, because in it's core it has some of the best songwriting in the band's career.

I seriously thought there was something wrong with my vinyl player's speakers. But no, it's just mixed as badly as Death Magnetic or Vapour Trails.

The music itself is sweet, though.

I'm actually not convinced it is

Some live recorded material is awesome and the mix is really sweet. I sometimes listen to those if I want to appreciate the songs. The sound is also perfect during live shows, saw them last October and they were amazing.

It‘s really peculiar how shitty their albums sound compared to the live performances.

Bump. Somebody's gotta stick up for this album. The production is brickwalled to shit but I understand why they made it this way. These are their most gorgeous tunes, and the production counteracts the melodies in a way that makes them seem even more grand. Yeah it's overcooked in parts but with stuff like the ending to Seasons it makes the album sound so huge it's gonna break your speakers

I'm glad this album has its fans but this is probably the one Baroness release I can't get really excited over.

I'd do Anything and Throw Me An Anchor are still incredible tho

I've listened to Blue and Purple a couple of times and there's not a whole lot a remember off them, every non-interlude I immediately remembered when I relistened to it today. The production may be a bit much but the songs are there. I'm a big production geek, and I think the role production plays in music is to give the songs a world to inhibit. For as rough and grating as this production can get, it does create a world for these songs.

You should listen to Yellow And Green if you haven't, it's low-key their best

Also >Black and White. When?

Apparently never. They wanted to do a ''rainbow'' series, not a colour one (as per The Dear Hunter), and since they've run out of rainbow colours, the next one is probably titled (and supposedly themed) differently.
