it deserves it
it's been over a year since its release and even though it's not *perfect*. I still return to it on practically a bi-weekly basis. it's just so powerful esp. in the beginning

I still hold to the fact that the second half makes the album stronger overall even if the first half is objectively more powerful

You might be right but I'd still give anything to see where Glen would have gone with a full 12 track album in the same vein as the first handful of songs

Don't Settle is so momentous. Feels like a song to end all songs. Like how could anything be more perfect than that.

I like this album. There are parts of it I don't like, though. 'I'll Be You, Be Me' is clearly too loud so when it reaches the crescendo, it has nowhere to go. It brick-walls and the audio clips; sounding like a completely muddled mess. It's strange because the song right after it, 'Don't Settle' has a perfectly fine dynamic range.
'Fool's Game' has a strange issue as it starts pretty nicely until the terrible sounding breakdown where the whole thing turns to mush. It's like, they could have normalized it and made best use of the dynamic range for better clarity. I can't only guess that it was an artistic choice.
That said, some of the songs here are among his best and I hope he continues in this new direction having effectively mastered his balladry to such an extent that he could write those songs in his sleep.
'Race to the Bottom', 'Brother's Keeper', and 'Weight of the World' are bloody fantastic. As neekafat, the second half of this album is very strong.

Every time I hear that break it sounds like every pain, every stressor, every godawful thing in the world breaks loose in this hellish rage, but as the loud part goes on, elements start to get clearer and the chorus becomes more pronounced, even overtaking the noise, to the point where they all start singing in unison as one giant push against the chaos
I'd say its an artistic choice
