Surprised people love this sooo much.

I gave it a few spins and it's certainly not bad, but didn't overly wow me either. Some of it felt pretentious, like the female spoken voice stuff, idk. This coming as a Copeland fan

If you're wondering how to make a well-received album, just make something boring. Lots of people will assume it's important.

Nah it’s a cop-out, you could shit on literally anyone’s 5s if you spin it the right way.

Not that I disagree with you, albums great

Glad I kept with this after my first few listens were ambivalent. It's grown on me a lot and is definitely the best album I have heard this year so far.

If you're wondering how to make a well-received album, just make something boring. Lots of people will assume it's important.

That's exactly how the indie scene works. Make your album as bland and uninspired as possible and people will keep listening to it, trying to figure out why it's good when in reality it's not.

Yours assertions have successfully altered my aesthetic experience of this record. I now hate it.

Firedust knows the #1 secret that will RUIN indie albums.

just cuz its atmospheric doesn't make it musically boring. there's super proficient bass playing, and a killer saxophone section in my fav on this record, suddenly.

There's not a ton of style variation which is something i guess could be labeled as bOrInG, but I think they pull off the style they are going for supremely well on nearly every track. reminds me of the Undersea EP by the Antlers.

I just don't get how this could be labeled as boring atmospherically. I get how people could stylistically find it boring if it's not something they would typically, but it's so consistent in the atmosphere it creates, and then adds to many details and intricacies to that atmosphere that makes every listen new and every song unique. Like I don't get how Pope, Colorless, or Strange Flower could be called uninspired.
