I read that Davey article too and was thinking the same thing lol. Why would they release 4/11 songs over 3 months early? Dumb.

"We can't tour! Let's wait to release music... okay a year has passed, still can't tour. Let's release music, but do it suppppper awkwardly and release half the album as singles months before dropping it. Maybe by the time it is all released we can tour again."

Love AFI, but woof.

i'd like to think it's something on the management side, not them actively trying to release so late in the year

but what do i know

It is very strange that they are on Rise now lol. I only think of 'Risecore' bands when I hear that label name.

Rise has been getting a bunch of random shit. off the top of my head, At The Drive-In did their come back on Rise (i think).

i feel like it really is just kinda whatever they can get and DGD these days. that's been their only constant. plus with them acquiring Blue Swan, i'd imagine that's the type of brand they want to strengthen.

but yeah AFI being there is definitely random lol

Yeah, they botched this. I heard they already had recorded the album, but held it back all this time because of the pandemic, and because they prefer to tour. Plenty of other bands already had the foresight to see that's not going to happen, so they released their albums. AFI being stubborn about it for so long was silly.

i'm not gonna fault em for the choice despite me disagreeing with it.

by the time they tour again they'll probably also be working on newer material

Far Too Near is more of that classic 2010's sounding darker tinged AFI bop (think Wild, Still A Stranger). fun stuff! chorus felt a little repetitive but Davey sounds great

Adam and Hunter are really getting to shine on this album and I love it. And Jade's production/songwriting is super playful and fun. Davey's also doing lots of interesting stuff with his voice. Dulceria has it all.

Far Too Near reminds me of Wild with a bit more post-punk DNA. Definitely an earworm. Escape From Los Angeles has become one my favorites. The climax of that song is so satisfying. This is just gonna be a super chill/fun album.

I am excited to hear Dulceria now. Still think they REALLY botched this album release. I am just not hyped for this as an "album", but its nice getting a song here and there. They should have just done a normal 1 or 2 singles, 3 max and then dropped the whole thing at once.
