It's interesting really, the 'blackgaze' tracks bore me to absolute tears, there's really nothin there. there was hints of it last album but now they have fully embraced parodying themselves. I like Without end in concept and glint is the only other track that kind of resonates with me. I really want to like this but it's just too derivative for me at this point
I digress

You Without End is literally the worst song they’ve ever made by a longshot. I’m not saying that because it’s edgy I’m saying it because it’s true.

yeah I'd be lying if I didn't say that the spoken word parts on that track are one of the most cringe-worthy things I've heard all year. like the lyrics themselves blegh

Wow, I'm really interested in where that negativity is coming from guys. Care to explain or do I have to like, read the whole thread. I really don't want to do that because it's 20 pages long.
It's extremely rare that I fall in love with an album on first listen, and I didn't exactly fall in love with it, but I really appreciated it. This is a good album no matter how you slice it, feels like a totally organic progression from Bermuda so I'm not empathizing with the backlash.

yeah I'm kind of torn, this is definitely more 'organic' and thought-out than new bermuda as a whole but the music itself sounds so tired and surprisingly lackluster.
there is definitely worse blackgaze out there but it's annoying because these guys were capable of better

They're definitely not breaking any new ground here but they're just being Deafheaven, and isn't that why we love them (or love to hate them?). While you may have expected more, this is pretty in line with what they've produced thus far.
...And yes, they're just one of those bands that will forever exist in the overbearing shadow of their debut record. It's a blessing and a curse.

@fish Ehh, that just means you're bored of the black-gaze genre. Nothing wrong with that but it doesn't affect the quality of this record, just means your taste is changing.

Well I at least enjoyed this album. Honeycomb, Canary Yellow and Near being my 3 fav tracks. I fucking love Near.

Pale is best bm I’ve heard so far this year.
Canary Yellow is by far the best track here for me though.

Listening to this again, first track is indeed incredibly cheesy, overblown and corny hahahahaha.
Let's see how the rest goes...
