Lyrics are cheesy af on this tbh. I'm not as attuned to lyrics as you though. My initial reaction is always to the actual music: the atmosphere, hooks, vocals. Some of my favourite albums ever have objectively bad lyrics but the music outweighs all other considerations. That said, what I've been able to pick out hasn't been that bad. Actually love the lyrics on Cops Shot the Kid

I’m in the same boat as you Gyro. The music means almost infinitely more to me than the lyrics. I can forgive insipid lyrics way more than lackluster music.

problem is it's an album with Nas' name on the cover so I'm tuning into what he's doing. Adam and Eve is the only song where his flow, lyrics, delivery and message weren't completely inane and trash imo

if it was a Kanye album I'd give it higher scores, cos Kanye is doing great work on the boards all the way through. but he's doing all that in service of trash bars so I can't ignore it

Yeah I guess I can’t speak to that album specifically. Hoping to spin it soon. Got a 3 hour car ride to look forward to tomorrow, gonna bump some new albums during that. Nasir is def on the list.

Like, what lyrics stand out as being that bad? And Kanye's lyrics are routinely dogshit lol. Another example of (usually) bad lyricism but who cares because his production and music rules

A few questionable lyrics but it really didn’t bother me since the production is stellar and to me fits the nas style that was needed. That cops shot the kid song is a groover, everything (the song) is pretty damn beautiful. Love Adam and eves old school honky tonk beat

Me neither, but for me it was more I just have always slept it seems. Production is as good if not better than kids see ghosts and nas > cudi

The more I listen to this, the more layers I peel back and the fresher the perspective becomes. This is a good thing.
