You don’t have to be a bass player to know that heavier music needs a substantial low end to not suck.

Most heavy music, Metallica’s brand of thrash definitely included.

Yea. It sucks and is good at the same time. It took me years to come to this conclusion

It mostly just sucks though. People are way too forgiving of its obvious flaws

Black metal is better when you can hear the bass. It's usually doing fairly simple stuff (even by black metal standards) but sometimes it is very nice.

I don't think it's perfect, but most of the songs on there are definitely good. I like it more than MoP tbh, but RtL > all their other stuff

I'm forgiving of the production because I like clicky bass drums

Its production isn’t its only problem.

But it's true, the production is actually prett bad. They had to copy and past choruses, because the singing style of Hetfield was so harsh on his vocal chords. It's the most obvious on Shortest Straw

But still it's more captivating imo than most of their other stuff, it's a really weird record

The pieces in And Justice For All... are also waaaay too fucking repetitive. Like, there's a good album hidden there, and Metallica could make good stuff that's longer than 6 minutes, but they fucked up in that album. The worst part is that after And Justice For All... instead of improving that style they just made radio rock. With a few songs longer than 6 minutes for some reason.

Victims of Deception is an album for anyone who has even a remote interest in thrash.
