This album is excellent, and definitely makes Poison Season that much better. Kaputt to this is some sort of Bejarian trilogy, I tell ya

Been discovering the Destroyer's records lately. I adore Kaputt but I did not like this one at first until just now where it has grown on me so, so hard. Should have put this on my year-end list but oh well, what do ya do?

surprised you rate this 1.5 worse than 'Kaputt'
even more surprised you rate this 1.5 worse than 'Rubies'

I’d like to think this will become a sleeper classic among the indie masses like Kaputt did but honestly I think those were more innocent days, it would deserve the belated acclaim though

2 worse than kaputt for me (which will make my top 50 decade)

Anyone who doesn’t put Kaputt in their top 50, well I don’t want to say I won’t take their ‘Top 100 of the ‘10s’ list seriously...but I won’t take it very seriously
I think this one is one of the better indie pop albums of recent years, can’t think of much competition. You start looking towards Arcade Fire, The Shins, Spoon or Dirty Projectors and what they’re coming up with is just terrible
Also, this is still a great deal better than the last few New Pornographers albums
I just think people have moved away from indie stuff like this a bit tbh - but this is a goodie

‘Sky’s Grey’ is such a great ‘transporter’, takes me back to last year’s cloudy depressions :D
Almost as good as ‘Chinatown’ as an opener - and ‘Chinatown’ is my song of the decade so far.

Gorgeous record but I gotta put Poison Season and Kaputt above it. Kaputt is top twenty of the decade, Poison Season top 50 I'd say.

Pretty much yeah, except Kaputt is in the top 1
This and Poison Season...they'd both make my top 50 or 60 (depending just how great 2019 is/how much stuff I dig up from the decade next year)
I still think I marginally prefer this to Poison Season, it's definitely an easier start to finish listen - both have about the same number of great tunes though

To my ears Kaputt gob stomps this in pretty much every way, but they’re hineslty not even all that comparable. Kaputt does that kinda faux-soulful cheesy sophisti-pop 80s thing perfectly, they’re great tunes all and superbly sequenced. A true “world of its own” album. This on the other hand is merely lame 80s synthpop pastiche, the melodies are often awkward, Bejar’s singing is merely ok, the songwriting isn’t near as memorable, and the production/mixing is pretty bad, way too loud and compressed - I find this unpleasant in spaces. That probably all sounds pretty harsh given that I gave this a 3 and I mean this isn’t really that bad and there were a couple things I liked but all in all this is probably my least favorite Destroyer album.
