They did give the War of Drugs and Fleet Foxes BNM though, so they haven't neglected all p4k-core

I'm kinda surprised they gave war on drugs bnm actually and not this

War on drugs seems like something they'd slide a cool 7 to

Well they loved Lost in the Dream so it's not a surprise.

Mmhmm, but the new record seems like the sort of more-of-the-same LP that they'd give a significantly lower score to despite basically identical quality

It's funny; I used to get really excited by a p4k BNM; nowadays it's a turnoff.

My favorite records almost always fall in their 8.0-8.2 range

Same. 8.2 is always a peculiar one because it means "we would have BNM'd if not for site politics." Stuff like the Hotelier ends up there because they're too cool to BNM an emo album.

This was pretty good. The National have always been a weird band for me. I've enjoyed everything they've done, but I hardly ever listen to them. This had some damn fine tracks on it though.

Yeah foxxxy I almost mentioned that record. I'm actually surprised they didn't score that higher. Seems like a 8.8 - 9.0 candidate for them

They seem to only give 9.0 plus to established, pre-approved acts these days. Everyone else is capped at ~8.8

I can't remember the last time I discovered something really cool through them at this point. 2011 when bnm were going to youth lagoon and wu lyf it was such a good source for me

They learned from Bon Iver S/T to not overshoot with the rating. That record ended up #27 on their decade list despite the 9.5. They give out only low 9s these days to the best stuff.

Tbh I go to Pitchfork more for the news and The Pitch than the reviews. Usually I just peep the ratings and don't even bother reading the reviews.
