Is there anyone on this site who actually cares about the story behind these songs, like the fictional story, or is it just me?

I have an interest in it, but it's certainly hard to keep track of. at least going by the music alone. I've never looked at the comics.
Like... the band is named after Coheed and Cambria, but they're not actually huge figures in the story, as it's more about Claudio and Newo. Also, Ten Speed is literally a talking bike, Apollo is a dog, it's just... a lot to try and digest.
It was different with the Afterman albums, those were much easier to digest, and I also had the book that went along with them, which was actually a really cool, interactive listening experience.

How do you read into the story? Is it all in the lyrics?

there is a comic book series that is based off of the albums. There's also a novel that coincides with Year of the Black Rainbow. Not entirely sure about The Afterman albums though.

With SSTB and IKSSE there are comic books. What's interesting to me is some songs ("the Light and the Glass" aren't really addressed in the comics which is weird. The YOTBR book is decent but overall the story is kind of boring and it ruined some of the songs for me because, thinking in terms of a concept, a lot of them cover the same shit.
GAIBSIV was released as a comic years ago but Claudio wasn't really happy with the medium (it was done in the same art style as the album art and kind of ambiguous) and so he redid it this year and it'll be released with the tour.
The part that kills me is that NWFT has been kept secret this whole time. There are a lot of great fan theories but overall Claudio hasn't said a single word about it which kills me because it's my favorite one story-wise.
The Afterman was released with a coffee table book but you can also find the whole story spelled out song by song on Wikipedia.

Yeh, I wasn't really digging the YotBR stuff, I didn't really enjoy the book, and it's probably towards the bottom of my favorite Coheed in general.

I own that actually. It's somewhere in storage. I remember liking it a bit, especially the art, but that was 10 years ago and I wasn't really into comics back then at all. Might be worth revisiting, but I'm a completionist so I feel like I'd want to read everything in order. Not sure I want to embark on that much of a journey, but I really don't know how much material has been amassed since then.
I also had a signed single issue I got from Claudio at Warped years ago, but I couldn't find it last time I looked. Bummer.

Yeah the album art to this looks more cohesive with the style of the other two issues. I'm always made when I think of YOTBR because there were so many cool things they could have done with that story and it just became this boring mess where half of the story was really exciting (the beginning and the end) and the middle was just this boring love story that, for some reason, they wrote all the songs about.
