And yeah Sowing if you're a fan of Opeth and Agalloch then Enslaved would be right up your alley.

(For real though this band would probably be a relatively accessible metal band for me if such a one exists.)

Sowing have you tried the new Fen album? that's got some seriously good songwriting if you're into bands whose songs are "movements" a la Opeth

Listened to a couple songs... Hated the vocalist, instrumentals were ok though. Surprisingly poppy.

To me this is the perfect balance between the streamlined sound of the last 2 and the more technical sound of their 2000s albums. Really digging it.

Completely agree tuna, the past two records seemed to be very mainstream rock records, fun guitar licks but not much of an atmosphere or layered sound. This is atmospheric as hell, probably the most since Crack the Skye.

I think the word you're looking for is "compromise"

Compromise or just hitting the sweet spot. Either way this is another quality album from one of the most consistent bands in metal today.

Eh compromise insinuates they had to sacrifice or give something up to achieve this, and I don't really think that's the case.

"compromise" insinuates that they shouldn't be touching streamlined pop with a ten-foot pole, but if they're tired of making music with any real punch to it, then this will do.
