I know people who had that same mentality from my high school. I just don't get it. You can be unhappy with how things were operating under the Biden admin, sure...but what's the alternative with Trump? Did they really think it would be any better?

For what it's worth though, I was unaware that Macklemore was one of those people until now.

they care more about being able to righteously look down their nose at others than they do about actual outcomes

No world in which Trump is not a piece of shit, but it’s also true that the genocide thrived under Biden. He funded the fuck out of Israel. The Democrats proved that they could have run someone else when they chose to have Kamala take his place. The problem is that she never would commit to ending the genocide in Gaza.

If she would have, she could have won over skeptics. I voted for Harris, but the Democrats flushed the presidency down the toilet. They lost to Trump and that is officially embarrassing.

Biden deserved criticism, and Democrats should have had an easy win.

I’m at the point where I’ve voted for the lesser of two evils in every election I’ve been able to participate in. I’m not shaming anybody that decided to stay home. Especially with younger people. I’m fucking 29 and electoral apathy is real, I am not surprised at younger people hating on Dems too, You gotta give people something to vote for, not just something to vote against. But yes anybody that thought Trump electric boogaloo was the right move is absolutely fucking retarded.

Moderate dems / diet republicans gotta fuckin go, literally all of them. Start with Schumer and Jeffries

lol nothing changes until we rid ourselves of the cancer that is israel. im in nevada and the two gubernatorial candidates are at each other's throats rn but have come together in support of israel. there is no lesser of two evils when both support and are complicit w/genocide.

> If she would have, she could have won over skeptics.

People repeat this over and over but it doesn’t pass the smell test. No polling shows that I/P was some huge wedge issue that prevented an outcome-determinate population from voting Kamala, and if that WAS your single issue, there’s no world where you think Trump would have been better on it.

The boring reality is that it was just a shit-test on the economy post-COVID, most incumbent administrations around the world got tossed as a result, and the dems had like 100 days to run a campaign anyway. I/P dominated online political discourse but that doesn’t mean it played a significant role on the ground. Feel free to post some stats that indicate otherwise but I haven’t seen anything significant pointing in that direction.

I think the Gaza genocide is a big issue, especially for younger people. It's implausible to say that the Democrats saying "the violence must continue" didn't knock the wind out of their sails.

Again, you'd have to be a chudbrained imbecile to support Israel's campaign. So when the Democrats are essentially giving them a free pass, the floor is given to Republicans to say they're too pussy to finish the job and give Israelis their lebensraum. The genocide's happening either way, so it's better to have the epic alcoholic Secretary of War play army than have some gay loser with pronouns cry about "both sides".

2024 dnc primary protest vote principally attributed to gaza, in michigan, was figured to be 100k, which alone was higher than the trump win margin in the general, likewise with wisconsin, the protest vote in the primary was more than the trump margin in the general. in pennsylvania it didn't clear the margin, but was still substantial. there's no data about protest votes in the general, and it may well have been much lower than was threatened in the primary. but it may have been much higher as well, and i'd assume it was, since there were 8 more months of gaza spreading through popculture creating single-issue voters. in which case it could have decided the outcome. that's an 88 vote swing, harris would have won. comfortably. and that's not looking at the other purple states with similarly small margins, like georgia, which also flipped

idk how the Gaza genocide counts as a single issue, especially since it snowballed into attacking Iran and destabilizing the world economy. Feels more like a thread that's unravelling.

single issue voter is someone whose political participation is determined by a single issue.

i was meaning to call american muslims the dumbest electorate in american history but then remembered they share a whole lot more in common with christian conservatives than progressive liberals

Kraft now saying "Sheeran already asked me to donate" $2 million to causes "in the region". Doesn't specifically say what those causes are.

I’m not saying it wasn’t an issue or that it didn’t contribute to voter apathy, there’s a lot of push and pull factors in any election, but there’s no exit-polling showing it was anything approaching the decisive issues people were citing at the time.

What’s more, it’s one thing to make a statement in the primary — that’s what that forum is for — but unless you’re 100% virtue-signalling and you don’t actually care about what happens materially, withholding your vote from the democratic nominee to protest their stance on Gaza in the general, knowing full well you’re giving away the election to Trump, would be beyond stupid. I don’t doubt those people exist, but they don’t seem to exist in large enough numbers.
