"Damn should I check this? Last DT album I checked was Void and it sucked kinda. Love The Gallery, Mind's I, Character etc tho"
Void is their only meeeh one
This one is cool but it's less interesting then Construct IMO, Wilie described it perfectly in his years end list

I beg to differ, but anyway... this is more atmospheric, while Construct is more varied. Check both.

Nice review. "As a consequence, refusing to allow my own sentimentalities to colour my impression of this record is nigh-on impossible."
Instead, I'd say, "As a consequence, preventing my sentimentality from colouring my impression of this record is nigh-on impossible."
Preferential, honestly.
Cheers.

This has gotten marginally better over time. I'm still on the fence with bumping my rating. It's funny, the style DT decided to take with this album should be something that caters to my tastes, but I guess I've gotten so used to them providing exciting material that this ended up sounding dull, by comparison.
Edit: Just finished listening to it again and I think it's earned the bump. Updated my soundoff as well. Keyboards and electronics get a bad rep in metal, and while I think they do contribute to this album being less engaging, they do lend it an atmosphere that I'm pretty happy with. It just feels like such a departure from the DT I know and love, but given their age, I suppose it was only inevitable.

This is a bit underwhelming. Solid stuff, but nothing's jumping out at me.

I tend to enjoy keyboards and electronics in metal, it just depends on how it's implemented. Power and symphonic metal often take it too far, and while this has a lot of both going on, it feels a bit more integral to the music, which is part of why it grew on me enough to bump to a 3.5

Keyboards in metal are awful 95% of the time (here included) simply because bands tend to skimp on guitar riffs when they use keyboards, and as we all knows riffs are what make the world go 'round.

I think this album has a pretty good amount of nice riffs
I really like the production too, the reverb is a nice touch
